Last Week of Internship

2. Describe your reflections on your internship project—what went well, what would you do differently, and what stands out to you?

For my internship project I planned out several lessons which would teach the students on how to write a fable because that is the unit that they are on. Part of this process was reading a lot of fables to them so they could get an idea of what a fable is. I would probably try writing fables of my own next time to show them an example of mine. The part that stood out to me was how eager the students were to write a fable and while giving them lessons they were very good at participating with me when I asked them questions. The planning was probable the most difficult because I have to be prepare of what I'm going to teach the class the night before.

Internship Week 3

1. You are half-way through your project. How is it going? What challenges have you faced? What have you learned? What are you doing to ensure a successful completion of your internship project.

For my project I decided to give several lessons to the students about the unit that they are working on which is Fables. My first task was to plan lessons so my mentor and I went over important topics that make a good fable. I came up with Titles, Characters, Setting, Conflict, and moral. These are the five topics I want the students focusing on while I read them 2-3 fables a day. After I read the fables I give them a lesson on one of the topics and let interact with them and tell them to give me examples so that they will be able to write a fable of their own. So far its going great the students are very smart and eager to write fables of their own. The challenges that I faced is making sure everyone understands it and planning the lessons. I have been making sure I complete this project by communicating with my mentor and asking him for help if I need it.

2.
What are you thankful for in your internship experience?
After I interviewed my mentor one of his responses was that he wished he could of had this opportunity that I had because he probably would have become a teacher earlier. I'm glad that I get to know how it feels like to be a teacher I have met very hard-working teachers around the campus. I feel like it has strengthen my point of view and answered all my questions of becoming a teacher. Even though I'm the first intern my mentor has he has done a great job making me productive and interacting with all the students. I feel like my confidence has gained up because of the lessons and read-alouds I do in class. I'm thankful for having the opportunity to see what it's like to be a teacher and planning and organizing lessons in the real world that will benefit other students.

Internship Week 2

1. What is the biggest challenge face at your internship?

The biggest challenge I face at my internship is the when I correct and help the students on their math or writing. I'm patient but I get frustrated because some times I feel like just doing the work for them but the whole point is to teach them which feels great when they actually understand it. There are some students who are immature and don't take me seriously because even though I'm interning at the school they see more as a friend figure then a teacher so I'm trying to get it through to them that I'm an intern and I deserve respect so I have been learning how to talk to students assertively without being too nice or hard on them.

2.
How has or do you see your internship changing the way you consider that paths your future will take?

Well for one I'm glad I get this experience to observe a teacher teach students and look through the process they have to go to so far, it's not that bad but I'm still not sure if I see myself doing this as a career but I definitely see myself going to college and working with people, I don't want to work in a office I would rather be independent in a room like a teacher. I also know that my favorite subjects are English and writing so I will major in one of those and look for a job where I can teach that, I'm not sure if I want to be a grade or middle school teacher because I want to teach more English and writing rather than all these other subjects because it's a lot to juggle.

Internship Week 1

1. What are you excited about, nervous about and wondering about?
Coming into internship I'm really excited to get to talk to younger students and my mentor. I believe this will help me have better communication skills and I look forward to be doing something productive everyday. I'm nervous about how I'm going to react when I start teaching lessons in class because I always get nervous when public speaking so I don't want to look like I don't know what I'm talking about. I wonder what type of projects I will be covering and the way planning a project works because as a student I'm always the one completing the project but I always wondered whats it like to plan it and all the research and work behind it.

2. Describe the company culture at your internship, including how people interact, communicate and work together.
The teachers are organized and there are some teachers who work on projects together, most of the teachers don't work with another teacher but my mentor works with Mr. Kleuber and so far they have made their students build rockets together and the next project they are working on which will probably be my project is the engineering of a bridge the students are going to build. There are also occasionally some student teachers walking in and out of the class checking on the class.
